Your Roots Are Speaking—Are You Listening?
By Dr. Nana Akaeze — The Awake Journal
This is my voice.
This is my belief.
Because a tree does not collapse when the branches shake— it collapses when the roots are neglected.
And today, too many people are losing their destinies, not from external storms,
but from the quiet decay happening underground.
Yesterday, we reflected on the tree’s wisdom and its roots.
Today, we go deeper.
Because a truth has to settle in your spirit:
No life rises higher than the strength of the roots holding it together.
You admire the fruits on someone else’s tree,
but have you ever asked yourself—
What is feeding my own?
Root Check: What Is Nourishing You?
Every tree grows silently before it grows visibly.
And every destiny matures inwardly before it blossoms outwardly.
You want a bright future,
but what is hidden beneath your ground?
Because: “If you fear the success of those connected to you, you are standing closer to failure than progress. — Dr. Nana Akaeze
Fear of success is one thing,
but resentment of another person’s success is far worse.
It signals that the soil beneath is drying, starved of humility, gratitude, and self-awareness.
Envy is not just an emotion—
it is spiritual erosion.
It eats your confidence, dries your joy, and suffocates your potential.
You cannot grow while pulling others down. You cannot be blessed while cursing someone else in silence, and you cannot rise while your heart is busy kneeling on someone else’s progress.
A poisoned root cannot produce a healthy tree.
A Soil Test for the Soul
Before the new year opens its doors, ask yourself:
Who is feeding your roots?
What conversations are watering your mind?
What habits are strengthening your foundation?
What internal voices are shaping your destiny?
Many people are not failing because of a lack of opportunity
They are failing because of a lack of inner nourishment.
You cannot harvest peace from soil soaked in jealousy.
You cannot harvest greatness from soil filled with bitterness.
And you cannot harvest growth from soil that refuses to be self-honest.
Hear this truth again:
You cannot harvest success while planting envy. The seeds don’t match the fruit.— Dr. Nana Akaeze
If You Want to See Flowers—Care for the Roots
If you want beauty in your life,
you must cultivate kindness, humility, and support.
Greatness is not grown in isolation;
it is grown in connectedness.
Celebrate your brother’s breakthrough.
Defend your sister’s dream.
Honor your friend’s achievement.
Wish greatness for your neighbor’s child.
Because when you rejoice in the blooming of another tree,
you enrich the whole forest.
And somewhere in that forest, your own tree stands.
When one of us blooms, the fragrance blesses us all.— Dr. Nana Akaeze
But when you spend your time tearing down what God is raising,
you don’t destroy them—
you destroy your own soil.
This is why the world is full of people who “look fine” on the outside
but are withering on the inside.
Roots matter.
And you must protect yours.
Stand Tall but Grow Deep
People chase visibility, forgetting that trees grow downward before they grow upward.
Your next elevation depends on your next internal correction.
As this year closes, let this be your truth:
Grace does not compete—grace completes.— Dr. Nana Akaeze
Where there is grace, there cannot be disgrace. — Dr. Nana Akaeze
The deepest roots bear the strongest fruit.— Dr. Nana Akaeze
So water your soil with wisdom.
Feed your roots with gratitude.
Anchor your tree in character.
And trust God for the increase.
2026 is coming.
Go into it with clean soil, strong roots, and a heart that celebrates goodness—
Both yours and others.
Nourish your roots.
Honor your season.
Grow with intention.
And watch God establish your tree in places envy can never touch.
